Avantis Estate was established in 1994 by the economist Apostolos Mountrichas. The winery owns 20 hectares of vineyards in Central Evia – Afrati region. It has gained Global distinctions for the supreme quality of its wines, with 300+ medals, from International Wine Competitions. It is included in the top ten (10) Greek wineries.
The winemaker Apostolos Mountrichas is a Syrah expert, he revived an ancient indigenous Euboean red grape ‘Mavrokoudoura’ (Black Koudoura) and he is the one who made Euboea a famous Greek winegrowing region.
Recently the Avantis red wine “Agios Chronos”, won the PLATINUM MEDAL 95/100 – being the best medal for a Greek wine – between 15.000 wines from all over the world, from the Decanter Wine Awards 2016 in Great Britain.
Also the red wine “Avantis Estate Syrah” – the Avantis landmark wine, won the best medal for a Greek wine in the Japan Wine Competition 2016, along with its gold medal.
The last 2 years Avantis Estate is cooperating with the Agricultural University of Athens in oenological research on indigenous yeasts of the grape varieties they grow.
